Active Since 1946

The bricks are fired in one of the last remaining Belgian ring kilns. The brickworks has been operating since 1946 and is still owned by the Hove family. The shaping and firing process has remained unchanged over the past 50 years, as tests with modern techniques did not result in any improvements.

Only 800,000 Facing Bricks per Year

Since the facing bricks still dry in the open air, production only takes place during the summer months. As a result, annual production is limited to approximately 800,000 facing bricks. The highly sought-after colour variations are achieved through the traditional production process. No two facing bricks are exactly alike!

Raw Materials

The raw materials used for these facing bricks are red-firing and yellow-firing clay extracted from the company’s own clay pit. Stacking in the drying sheds and loading the kiln are still carried out entirely by hand. The different colours result from the heterogeneous mixing of the two clay types and from the firing process itself. Each fired brick is individually sorted by hand. The facing bricks are fired at 1080°C using coal as the sole fuel source.
